If you have been attempting to locate an simpler way of fighting toenail fungus issues, you may want to give Listerine a try. It might just be the fix to your toenail fungus problem. Before we jump into the benefits and drawbacks of using this approach to to fight your toenail infection, we first have to know what induced the issue in the first place.

What exactly is Toenail Fungus? The issue is induced when fungus starts to grow under your toenail. Normally, this is induced either by causing injury to the nail, that will make it a lot easier for the disease to get under your toenail. Also if you wear wet socks, you will be more likely to get toenail fungus. The best place for fungus to grow is in dark, damp places, so wet socks would be ideal. Your socks could be the ideal habitat, for that reason, for the fungus to grow. Usually, toenail fungus is not agonizing. Nonetheless, it does result in your toenail changing colors to a yellow-brown color.

How It's Usually treated can be simple, however a lot of people will say the issue will not go away without fast, harsh action. Some of those actions suggested for treatment are a complete removal of the toenail. If you, like most people, do not choose that route, you can use natural medications and simply put them on the problem area. All these treatments are accessible over-the-counter and are not costly except they additionally will not fix your issue. Pills are hardly ever given by physicians for the fact that they just do not work on toenail infections, and extremely often and can result in real harsh side effects for the user.

But there's something most households have that you might not have thought of. Listerine. Most of us are aware that Listerine is a strong, antiseptic mouthwash. Listerine was the first mouthwash that was sold over a wide-spread area. Furthermore, the Listerine consists of an antiseptic ingredient which is called thymol. Thymol has additionally been shown in a few studies to contain fungus fighting properties, especially when applied on toenails, and this is ideal since almost all homes will have this mouthwash.

Even though varied persons have varied recommendations, a lot recommend soaking your infected toe in either one hundred percent Listerine, or in a mix of half Listerine and half vinegar. You ideally would want to soak the infected toenail for thirty minutes every day. Wipe off and dry your toe! You do not want to stay wet, remember cold damp places are ideal growing areas for fungus. Do not expect a conclusion right off the bat. Infections are difficult to fight and need daily treatment, sometimes for months. Eventually, nonetheless, the anti-septic will fight off any new growth the fungus might have. That's when you can remove the damaged part of the toenail and let the new healthy nail take over.

Now you would possibly like to know which cure is most safe and a lot efficient, which is a good question. You can locate this advice on the link below this text.

1 Vote(s)

One of the greatest blessings of the medical science is the invention of laser rays. Thanks to the invention it has now become possible to undertake bloodless surgeries. In the past laser has been successfully used for treatment and surgery of the eyes. Now the scientists and doctors have changed their aiming point towards the treatment of foot.

New hopes emerging

With the use of laser rays for the treatment of the toenail fungus, many physicians and doctors now believe that it will be possible for the people suffering from this irritating syndrome to take their socks off in the public. This will certainly be a great moral booster for the millions of sufferer across the globe. Perhaps the greatest achievement will be providing peace and solace to 15% of the world population already under influence of the toenail fungus syndrome.

New way of treating toenail fungus

Target of laser treatment now is toenail fungus that has affected nearly 23 million people in United States alone. After conducting small clinical trials the doctors are now certain that the use of laser could open up new vistas in the treatment of toenail fungus and several other such types of concealed diseases. The new way of treatment incidentally aims at removing all types of toe nail and nail infections by selective irradiating the fungi. Good news is that unlike other treatments this treatment will keep the nail and surrounding tissues intact while carrying out the laser ray surgeries.

Why laser?

Medical scientists are now turning towards laser treatment in their quest for finding out a real healer and wholesome treatment of the toenail fungus. Hundreds of medications, and home made appliances are used to cure and prevent toenail fungus. The fact remains that despite huge publicities made by such manufacturers, most of the medicines etc manufactured for curing the toenail fungus do not cure the fungus at all. They only provide some small time relief from the affect. Fact remains that right now there is nothing called sure cure for toenail fungus. Moreover while some treatments take fairly longer period like 48 weeks, others are expensive and may cost you $1,500 in the long run. Yet the complete cure cases are less than 10% of the total affected people.

New lacquers proving insufficient

Most of the pharmaceutical giants are now developing new lacquers. At the same time they are also improving on their existing pills and ointments in order to fight the fungi. However over the years the people who are suffering from toenail fungus affects are losing their faith on these treatments and are turning towards laser treatments. One of the upcoming laser treatments for toenail fungus is the Noveon developed by the Nomir Medical Technologies that is based in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Proven affects of laser treatment

Noveon type laser is commonly used by the doctors in the treatment of eyes, and also for dental treatments and hair removals. Experiment has revealed that with around four laser treatment sessions more than 40% of the patients no longer had any toenail infections. This has brought up a new ray of hope for the hitherto hopeless minds of those who suffers from toenail fungus affects.

1 Vote(s)

If you are looking for a toenail fungus cure is typically started by disappointment in different treatment ideas and fighting this problem is a long-term effort and many have feelings of annoyance due to a lack of effective remedies.

Fungus infections are flow by insufficient airflow and moisture. This infections are not contagious and do not spread easily, the main cause for the nail fungus is a weaker immune system. Mostly fungus infections are mild, there are also reported many deaths caused by mycoses. Fungus infections are called for the part of the body they infect.

Many people have believed that bleach can be extremely helpful in treating nail fungus. The Bleach treatment for nail fungus was used for many years before prescription and over the counter treatments was available. Bleaching is considered to be a safe way to treat toenail fungus, some people object to it because it does not alleviate the fungus as quickly as commercial medications.

Some people have liquid bleach or powdered bleach in their laundry rooms and many people may have facial hair bleach in their medicine cabinets. Foot care professionals always recommend using one part bleaching powder to one hundred parts of water to keep the feet clean and fresh.

When we bleach is used for the purpose of killing nail fungus, more dilution and contact time is needed. Before bleaching, trim the toenail as much as possible and file the nail. Then you take one tablespoon of bleaching powder or liquid and mix it with one gallon of water. Soak the toenail for at least some time in a day. Many people soak the nail for 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening.

Many people use the extent of using one part bleach to four parts water or even put bleaching power directly on the infected toenail but extreme care must be taken when using this approach. Bleaching powder is a corrosive chemical, which can severely irritate the skin, and the fumes from bleaching powder can damage the respiratory system. First use of bleaching make sure that there are no children around when you using this soaking method to cure your nail fungus infection.

Sometimes a small quantity hydrogen peroxide is added to the soaking solutions. Many people even use some drops of Listerine mouthwash in the soak. Generally always use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar may be used. Normally Apple cider vinegar can be taken by mouth twice daily to help prevent and cure fungal nail infections.

When you use bleach to cure toenail fungus usually find that it takes two to three months for the fungus to cure completely. Although it takes a while for bleach to cure the toenail infection, it is considered safe if it is used in the proper dilution.

Other common attribute of nail fungus is its resistance to treatment, even with the modern prescription drugs and non-prescription treatments. If you face problems with toenail fungus, you've probably been going out of your mind trying to find bleach treatments that actually work. In use much fungus treatment available that contains one or two of the key necessary ingredients needed to successfully eliminate nail fungus.

1 Vote(s)

Toenail fungus is so ugly and hard to treat. Once you think it's under control it comes right back. Why does it come right back? Why is it so hard to get rid of for good? Does this treatment or that treatment work?

Step 1

There are different types of toenail fungus and if you are unsure of which type you have the doctor can do a test to determine if your nail fungus can be treated at home. My mother took pills for 3 months. They have terrible side effects and her nail fungus came right back.

Step 2

Toenail fungus is hard to treat but a big problem with toenail fungus is it is very contagious. If you are only treating your nails, this is a problem. Why treat your nails and put the same shoes back on? The first key to treating toenail fungus is preventing it. Fungus love damp warm places. You should try wearing open toe shoes as much as possible. When you wear socks make sure they are cotton. Soak and wash your socks in bleach and dry on high heat. How are you going to get rid of that nasty fungus if it's living in your socks? If you get rid of that fungus, toss your shoes and get new ones. I am all about saving some money but trust me, used shoes is the last thing I want. It is likely that the person wearing them before you had nail fungus. Avoid injury to the nails. This is when the fungus is more likely to get inside the nail.

Step 3

There are plenty of home remedies out there to treat nail fungus. The main key for it being a successful treatment is no matter how long it takes, 2 months, 6 months or a year, keep it up. And yes, it can take up to a year.

Step 4

The first treatment I'll talk about is soaking your feet in Listerine. I do know people that this treatment has actually worked for. One couple I know it did take care of their nail fungus but it did take 1 year of soaking their feet for 30 minutes each day. However, if you find your Listerine treatment is not working for you, or not fast enough try this. Take 1/2 Listerine and 1/2 vinegar and soak your feet for 30 minutes everyday. Fungus hates acid environments so this method kills them or drives them away. Some people find that they do not have time to soak their feet everyday so they take and apply this mixture to the nail 5 times a day with a cotton ball. If you are applying directly to the nail some people think it's best to cut the nail as much as possible and file the tops down to gain more exposure to the fungus.

Step 5

The next method which has a good success rate is tea tree oil. Which can be bought at a discount store or drug store near the vitamins. Just take a cotton ball or swab and apply it directly to the nail at least once a day. With this method some will say do it more than once but I have found that if you do this more than once it will result in extremely dry skin around the nail.

Step 6

Another method to treat toenail fungus at home is to apply Vick's Vapor Rub directly to the nail once a day. I personally do not know anyone who has tried this method but I have read about many who have.

Step 7

Some other methods include Lavender Oil and some other Oils however I do not know of the success rates if any of these treatments. To piggy back your treatment eat yogurt and meals with turmeric which help fight fungus in the body. Keep your immune system at its best.

Step 8

I believe that most if not all of these home remedies will work if you keep them up. Keeping them up, preventing to get a re infestation of the fungus and using a remedy a few times a week after getting clear nails is the key to getting rid of toenail fungus.

1 Vote(s)

Nail fungus is unsightly and embarrassing at its best but can be a hazard if left untreated. There are many anti-fungal medicines out on the market and some work while others just take a long time for the cure to occur. Try a home remedy that starts to work quickly, isn't painful and has that fungus packing its bags for good.

Step 1

Wash your feet in the bathtub. Use warm to hot water so that the tough skin softens and it softens the cuticle of the nail. Soften the cuticle so that the medicated rub will be able to penetrate the nail bed and work its way around the nail.

Step 2

Use a Q-tip to work the cuticle and push it back away from the nail. Take a bit of vapor rub on the end of the Q-tip and rub it into the cuticle. Work the vapor rub down into the space behind the cuticle and then up the sides of the nail. Pay special attention to the corners of the nail and then up under the nail as much as you can. Coat the nail itself in vapor rub well and massage it in with the Q-tip.

Step 3

Place final coats of vapor rub over the nail, making sure it is down into the cuticle and wrap a Band-Aid around the toe. Don't wrap it so tight that you curtail the circulation but tight enough to stay put.

Step 4

Put on a pair of white cotton socks or footies to keep your foot from getting the vapor rub on the sheets if the Band-Aid comes off during the night. Take the socks and Band-Aid off in the morning. Give the toe a good scrubbing and continue with your day. You will need to continue this treatment until the fungus is gone. You will start to see results in the color of the toenail in a few days.

1 Vote(s)

I'm hoping someone will have a suggestion or at least share their experience in dealing with toenail fungus. I have two badly infected toes on one foot (a problem of several years) and two more are growing in with fungus. I'm aware that there is a prescription medication I can take for this, but I have the impression that it takes several months to work and can cause liver damage. At any rate, I'm only 3 weeks away from giving birth (yikes!), and wouldn't want to take it until I have finished breastfeeding, which could be quite a while. Has anyone successfully treated toenail fungus with any treatment, whether it's medication or alternative therapy? I am so tired of covering up the fungus with polish (not a polish kind of person) and you can imagine how hard it's been to reach my toes lately! Signed, I hate my toenails

1 Vote(s)
